DENMARK:  BEAR Project:  The BEAR project started in March 2016.  I was invited to be one of the six people on the Advisory Panel.  The overall vision of the project is to improve hearing rehabilitation in Denmark and around the world through an evidence-based renewal of clinical practice. The structured approach comprises studies of current practice, considerations for new methods, experimental application and refinement of this, evaluation and implementation of the most promising renewals. The project is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark (29 million DKK), Industry (15 million DKK), and partners (6 million DKK) and runs from 2016 to 2021.  On 25th April 2017, a year after its onset, the Annual review was held at GN Resound Headquarters in Ballerup, Denmark.

This very informative day gave the panel the opportunity to hear first-hand the significant progress the teams are making from work on a centralised clinical database, to hearing aid fittings, to new strategies for hearing profiling.

At the end of the day, as part of the Advisory Panel, we gave a number of attention points for the future work. It was very evident from the day’s discussions and presentations that a very high standard of work and research is being undertaken and augurs well for the future results.  Projects such as these are very rare around the world and I am very honoured to have been a part of it thus far, and hope to continue this over the coming four years.
